Support groups are a group of people that come together to meet and discuss a common topic. Support groups talk about experiences, share ideas, provide resources and emotional support for one another. There was no founded Dementia Support Group in McLeod County. That is why both myself (Executive Director) and Erika Smith (Community Life Coordinator) attended the Alzheimer Dementia Facilitator Training put on by the Alzheimer’s Association in Edina, MN.
The Hutchinson Dementia support group was developed to help the community cope and feel less isolated. By doing this we hope to bring groups of people together in the McLeod County area that are facing similar challenges that can relate with each other while making connections with one another.
The Hutchinson Dementia Support Group meets the first Tuesday of every month at Christ the King Church in the East Conference Room. March 1st 2016, was the group’s first time meeting and our topic that was discussed was fears and frustrations with Alzheimer’s.
The next time the support group is scheduled to meet is April 5th at 6:00pm-7:30pm.
The support group is open to the public: care givers, friends, and family are welcome to attend.
