As Mother’s Day is quickly approaching, it’s important that we set aside a day to honor and celebrate the women who have taken on the motherly role in our lives. When it comes to Mother’s Day, there are many different ways that you can celebrate such as…
Photo Book
Throughout the year, many of us take a million photos but end up not doing anything with them. Photos say a million words and bring back many emotions and memories for many. Scroll back to find photos and print them out for her to look at. Showing all of the special moments that you’ve spent together means more than you could ever imagine. You can either put these photos into a photo book, or make a slideshow filled with fun pictures and videos. You can even add funny pictures and videos and make a bloopers video!
Make Mother’s Day an “Us Day”
Most of the time, mothers are busy running around catering to the needs of their family. Mother’s Day is a day dedicated to celebrate all of the people who have taken on a motherly role. Dedicate the day celebrating them and everything they’ve done for you. This can be as simple as going shopping, walks in the park, or running errands. At the end of the day, the greatest gift you can give one another is your time.
Family Meal
Treat your mother and make her a special meal! You can invite her to your house, make the meal and bring it to her, or bring her out to eat. To stimulate discussion, there are many card games with questions that you can use. Otherwise, talk to her about what it was like to be a mother, you might even learn a thing or two!
Have a Family Game Night
If a day full of festivities isn’t going to work out, throw a family game night. There are so many games to play from Risk to Fishbowl! For Fishbowl, you each write down around 3-5 person, place, or thing and throw it into a bowl. You are on separate teams so the first team has to describe the word that’s written down without saying the actual word. You have one minute to get through as many as you can as a team. After the minute is up, then it’s the other teams turn to guess. You work as your personal team, so the other team isn’t guessing for you. After that, you throw all of the papers back in the bowl then continue to act it out for the next round. This is such a fun game for the whole family to play!
There are many different ways that you can celebrate your mother this year. Celebrate however you can no matter where you’re at. If you aren’t able to see her, give her a call or send a letter. At the end of the day, as long as she feels loved and appreciated that’s all that matters.
“You raised me to be the best version of you and dad a child could be. I am so lucky to have been adopted by you and to call you my mom. You deserve nothing but the best today and each and every day. Happy Mother’s Day 2021, mom. I love you” – Greg Dietl
Letter to all of the Mothers…
“I’m not doing enough”
This seems to be a phrase that comes up multiple times in a mothers head. As a mother, you have a lot that you are balancing all at once. Life is all about balance, and that means for yourself too. Most mothers seem to get consumed in their children’s lives and forget about their own. Even though they are a big part of your life, you need to make time for yourself as well. When they are off napping, playing with friends, at practices, etc. take that time to do something for yourself. By taking time for yourself, you’ll find that you will feel a sense of structure, balance, and become energized. Just know, you are enough.
It’s the little things.
Of course mother’s want to see their kids happy, but toys will only last them for so long until they grow out of them. What they really need is a support system growing up. This can be celebrating the little wins or even just going to their games and cheering them on. As a coach, I can just see my players eye’s light up when they see that their parents came to watch their games. The other day, we had a tournament and one of my players’ dad came into the gym and I looked over at her and saw her eyes suddenly filled with tears and heard her say, “My dad is here, I can’t believe he actually came”. I knew that was a moment she would never forget.
You are loved and appreciated.
Motherhood is not an easy task by any means. It’s also not something that you get instant gratification from either. This is your family and friends time to say thank you in any way they know how. No matter where you are in life, just know that you are appreciated. I hope you feel so incredibly loved this Mother’s Day, you deserve it.
Best,
