The holidays give you the opportunity to spend quality time with friends and family. It gives you the chance to catch up with one another and to talk about everything that’s been going on in your lives. After the holidays end, you suddenly realize you aren’t as connected to those friends and family as you were during the holidays. To keep those relationships strong, it’s important to think about ways that you can stay connected after the holidays are over. Here are some things that you can incorporate into your life that will help you stay in touch with your loved ones.
Schedule time to talk
Put aside time in your busy schedule to talk to your friends and family. Instead of trying to find time during the week, try to carve out time on the weekends. Most people find they have the most free time on Sundays. Make every Sunday a “reset” day. This gives you a chance to discuss your past and upcoming weeks. Making this a Sunday habit helps you stay connected and updated with what’s going on in their lives.
TV programs, books, podcasts… etc.
If talking about your week is too stressful for you, try connecting in a different way. Instead of talking about what’s going on in your life try to put together a book, TV, or podcast club. Essentially, you would watch, read, or listen to the specific thing you both decided on then come back together to talk about it! This gives you a chance to separate your weekdays from your weekends. Create a space that is welcoming and stress free to yourself and others.
Instead of connecting weekly, you can try to connect with them once a month. If connecting with your friends or family through technology is difficult, try being pen pals! Sending your friends or family a letter could be the perfect option for you! All you have to do is just set aside some time to write the letter and send it off! It doesn’t require immediate responses which can make communicating just a little easier and less stressful. This lets the person know that you’re thinking of them besides just on their birthday or holidays.
Plan a trip
If your funds allow it, plan a trip with family or friends! This could be the perfect option for those who don’t live close to one another. This also gives you the opportunity to go enjoy each other’s company without any other distractions around you. A great things about trips is that you create lifelong memories.
Keep in touch through technology
As technology has expanded every year, they’ve created more apps and services that allow us to connect virtually easier. If you have an Apple device, there’s an app called FaceTime. It allows you to video call another Apple device. FaceTime is very user friendly and is easy to use on the go. On the other hand, if you don’t have an Apple device, you can use Google Duo. Just like FaceTime, you can video call. But in addition to video calling, you can also leave messages on this app. The major advantage of having Google Duo compared to FaceTime is that it is compatible with all other platforms. If you aren’t into video calling, you can just send texts or emails.
There are so many ways to stay connected to others throughout the year. Use technology to your advantage to connect with your loved ones. Creating and maintaining relationships with friends and family are crucial.
