Growing Up:
Sid grew up 13 miles north of Hutchinson, MN on the shore of Lake Manuella. He lived on a farm for almost all of his life and really wanted to be a dairy farmer just like his father. He had 1 older brother, 2 older sisters, and 1 younger sister, so he was the 4th child out of 5. He ended up living near Lake Manuella for 85 years and enjoyed every second of it!
Marriage:
Sid met his wife when he was 17 and she was 15 years old. They were roller skating in Cokato, MN and fell in love after that! Jo and Sid got married in August of 1954 in a church northwest of Cokato. Sid was 21 when he got married and Jo was 19! They had 5 children together, 3 boys and 2 girls. Sid now has 11 grandkids and 9 great grandkids! He loves each and every one of them so much, along with his wonderful kids.
Work Life:
Sid was a dairy farmer all of his life up until 1994, and 2 of those years were spent in the military. He got drafted into the military right after Jo and him got married! He loved being a dairy farmer, and he really enjoys working with the cattle. He learned a lot about farming from his father because he was always helping him on the farm!
Retirement:
Sid fully retired in January of 1999. After he retired, Jo and him did a lot of traveling. They traveled to Australia and New Zealand, where his youngest son was and spent a month there visiting. He enjoys fishing and golfing. “We would pull the boat behind our pick up, and Jo and I would take off”, he mentioned. Sid enjoys fishing up north and the lakes surrounding the Hutchinson area. Of course like any other fisherman, they can’t give away there special spots!
Woodstone:
Sid was the first person ever to move into Woodstone Active Living. He moved into our community on October 1st of 2020. After his wife passed, he decided he did not want to live alone anymore and wanted more social interaction. Sid also owned a big house with a lot of farm land that he did not want to take care of anymore because it was becoming a lot to handle. He picked Woodstone because it was a brand new building and the name itself really presents itself well. “It is a very active living building with a bunch of daily activities. Everything that they told me before I moved in, it all has become true”, Sid mentioned. One thing he also enjoys about Woodstone are the friendly people and the social interaction of making new friends!
We are so happy to have Sid be a part of our Woodstone Community. He is always making others laugh and has the best attitude about everything!
